The high temperature insulation offered as thermal blankets, heat shields, thermal barriers, or firewalls consists of :
- A mineral insulating material
- A thin metallic envelope, usually metallic

The high temperature insulation systems can be removable (ready-to-fit) or non-removable (assembled directly on the part or area to be protected).
The main characteristics of such insulation blankets are: high thermal performance, light weight, mechanical stability, fluid resistance and low thermal conductivity.
